Mistakes I Have Made So Far as a New Content Writer. Avoid them!!

 My Mistakes So Far.

Chanakya once said 

"A wise man learns from the mistakes of others, while a fool learns only from his own mistakes."

I have started my content writer journey no less than a week. After encouraging myself to start blogging, I have come across myself. I have made mistakes and I am learning from them and I would suggest you to at least have a look over them.

 

Search engine optimization

This is literally one of the most important things which I have overlooked. I have got to know that If I really wish to pursue this career with all my seriousness I have to understand it properly. Because it's use is not only limited to the companies you're going to apply for, no it is equally important for you and the same for me. Like using H1, H2 or understanding the primary key words or anything else they really are important.

My lack of understanding of SEO can be categorized like this : 

• Not optimized key words with strong or high search volume keywords.
• No meta description or weak 
• Lack of internal linking ( posts were not connected initially )
• No image optimization - Google can't read images it requires alternative text.
• No clear call to action (CTA)
• No mobile optimization -  Most readers use mobiles.
• No back links - No connection to other websites such as X, Linkedln, Medium. 

So you might be able to understand the importance of search engine optimization. It is like key points you should remember while writing or posting blogs. The great thing is that you can use other platforms or software for free to get help. You don't have to do everything, you need suggestions. How are you going to know which word should be your primary key? via other platforms! That is why proper understanding of  search engine optimization is important.

Readability & formatting 

• My blogs have long paragraphs which make content overwhelming.
• No bold highlights and bullet points.

Generic

• Some parts sound too generic, like straight from a text book. ( I dunno how much better this one is)
• which results in no personal touch or storytelling

No personal take 

• My blog feels like an information guide rather than an expert's take. ( But I am not an expert :( well   I guess in some aspects I too need someone's guidance )
  
  
• Even  I have noticed that my tone is not engaging, it's more like I am talking about a third person in a rather roundabout way.

Blog design & Navigation 

This is something I do not wish to work at, at least for now. I have to manage my college, studies and then learning seo from YouTube and then leaving some time for myself and I personally don't find it that important. Either way I am not getting paid for this, I am only using this platform for practice and design and navigation are secondary elements.

By the way I have got 82 marks on SEO TEST 

Marks I got deducted was of url, website, https and things related to that, I don't want to work on them for the time being.
